Ryan received his b.m. in trombone performance and his m.a. in jazz studies from San Jose State University, where he studied with Thomas Hornig, Scott Whitfield, Aaron Lington, and Wayne Wallace.

Ryan has performed with a variety of bay area ensembles including The Concord Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps, Foreverland, and
​
Ryan offers private trombone + euphonium lessons around the South Bay Area. He has also led clinics at St. Francis High School, Kings Academy High School, Lynbrook High School, and Valley Christian High School.
